StocExpo: All eyes on EMCS and data communication

04/27/2011 StocExpo: All eyes on EMCS and data communicationTrade show in Rotterdam brings Implico many new contacts / main prize in sweepstake goes to Dutch winner

From March 22-24, 2011, Rotterdam was host to StocExpo, Europe's leading trade show for the tank terminal industry. Visitors to the booth hosted by Implico, the international consulting and software company, were interested primarily in data communication and EMCS (Excise Movement and Control System). Complementing these industry topics, Implico's sweepstake also attracted strong interest – with an iPod Touch to be won every day. All participants automatically entered the main draw, which featured an iPad 2 as the main prize. The lucky winner was Patrick Mast from the Netherlands-based North Sea Group BV.

Jürgen König, Implico's Head of Sales Oil & Gas, is pleased with the results of StocExpo: "Our days in Rotterdam were very successful for Implico. The trade show was considerably better attended than in 2010 and the second day was particularly busy. The discussions also confirmed that we made exactly the right decision in choosing our topics."

One of these topics was EMCS. This electronic form of customs processing for the cross-border transportation of goods subject to excise duty within the EU is now mandatory in many EU countries since the beginning of this year. Other countries are following one-by-one and the EU candidates for accession are already addressing the issue. Implico thus spent some of the show presenting the integration of EMCS processes in OpenTAS (the terminal administration and automation system) to petroleum businesses from Serbia, Hungary and Finland. Visitors were highly impressed by this integrated, all-in-one solution, which offers many advantages compared to web-based EMCS solutions.

Another much-requested topic was data communication, with visitors keenly interested in communications involving field equipment, the loading system and the ERP system. Here, Implico offers OpenTAS BDP (Business Data Processor) – a highly-flexible solution that works as a communications layer for linking the various areas. Thanks to its built-in business intelligence, OpenTAS can verify that data transfers are complete and correct.

Often, the meetings on data communication also led into discussions about IFLEXX. This new, international format for data transmission is intended to replace the previous national, outdated standards – first in Germany and then in other European countries. In Germany, IFLEXX is now deployed at 19 locations, soon to be followed by 65 further sites.

While visitors to Implico's booth were primarily from European petroleum businesses, terminal operators and chemical companies, South Africa, the Middle East and Australia were also represented. All visitors could enter the daily draw for an iPod Touch. The winners were Norbert Sturm from Merck KG aA, Christophe Klein from Petroplus Tankstorage AG and Taco Coolen from the Netherlands-based
LC Engineers & Consultants BV. The main prize, an iPad 2, also went to a winner from the Netherlands – Patrick Mast from North Sea Group BV.

Implico's presentation during the trade show's conference program also attracted strong interest. Steffen Schliesing, Senior Account Manager Oil & Gas, talked about "Optimization of Terminal Management – Best practice for Business and IT Processes," in front of an audience of around 50 persons. After the presentation, several conference participants then stopped by our booth for more information.
